Last winter, Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy asked her readers what was saving their life during the hard season of winter. At first thought, the question seemed a bit strange to me. But, the more I thought about it, the more I realized it’s important to note the things that are helping you through a season. It’s like counting your blessings, but also simply noticing the little things in life. Anne explains it best here.
We’re linking up again today to discuss what’s saving our life right now. There are so many thoughtful ideas and tons of inspiration.
Here’s what’s saving my life right now:
My Slow Cooker – My slow cooker is saving dinnertime at my house! My kids have evening swim practice most days of the weeks, which makes it very hard to put together a decent dinner. It’s late when we get home and they are starving. Basically, I need food to be ready for us when we get home! Slow cooker to the rescue! Here’s the other hard part, I don’t have a lot of time during the day to get food into the slow cooker. So, I’m loving super easy “recipes” like:
chicken + BBQ sauce = shredded chicken sandwiches
chicken + salsa + black beans = shredded chicken burritos
chicken + salsa + black beans + chicken broth = chicken tortilla soup
Thank you, slow cooker! You’re my hero!
Red Lipstick – I’m not adventurous with makeup but I take it up a notch during the winter. For one thing, my skin has been achieving shades of pale that I never thought possible, and red lipstick brightens up my whole face and smile. Second, between the cold and the dark, some days I just don’t want to get dressed and leave the house. Somehow, there’s a magical energy with red lipstick. Seriously! Once it’s applied, you can conquer your day. I promise! (I also recommend bright-colored nail polish – yellow, blue, coral, etc. – it’s a constant reminder that spring is coming!)
Tea – Tea always saves my life in the winter! It is my escape and rejuvenation. My afternoon pick me up or my evening calming elixir. I know most of you understand. My husband traveled to London a couple of weeks ago and bought me home some English tea. I’ve been cherishing every cup.
Yoga – I tend to relax (get it?! ha!) my exercise habits in the wintertime, due to lack of motivation and lack of sunshine. This winter, if nothing else, I’m making it to my yoga class. I’m always cold in the winter, but nothing warms my body like yoga. It’s proving to be the perfect winter workout.
